Join Kathy McTaggart to enhance your occupational skills in the field of technical writing and editing. Almost every product or service on the market today comes with 'documentation' produced by one or more technical writers. This eight-week online course offers a practical introduction to technical writing and editing as a skill and a profession. We examine the role and responsibilities of the technical writer/editor, key skills and attitudes required for success, and practice introductory technical writing and editing using individual and group exercises.

Handbook of Technical Writing (latest edition) This reference handbook is available from Chapters online (www.chapters.indigo.ca) or Amazon online (www.amazon.ca), and costs about $45, delivered by mail. It is an excellent resource. You will be able to use it throughout the Technical Writing program.
Instructor Bio
Kathy McTaggart holds a Master's in Technical Communication from the University of Washington in Seattle, and has taught Technical Communication both in Canada and the USA to a wide range of students. She is a member of the Society for Technical Communication and has researched and presented professional presentations on such topics as 'Integrating Technical Communication into the High-School Curriculum.' With a wide range of writing and software skills, Kathy brings her passions for teaching and technical writing together in teaching both levels of Technical Writing & Editing for Vancouver Island University.
